[Women's Basketball] Women's Basketball Rains Threes, Quiets the Thunder

Doane Women's Basketball traveled to Manhattan, Kan., on Saturday to take on Manhattan Christian for the team's third game in four days. The Tigers jumped out quickly, scoring the first 17 points of the game, as they rolled to a 109-37 victory over the Thunder. Doane tied the school record for 3-point baskets in the game with 16.Six different players scored for the Tigers in their opening run. Manhattan Christian broke through at the 5:33 mark with a basket. Doane led 33-5 at the end of the first quarter of play.The second quarter featured the Tigers' bench, led by Abby Boyes (FR/Bennington, Neb.) and Kate Jansky (SR/Milligan, Neb.). The duo combined to hit six 3-point baskets in the quarter as Doane had seven as a team. Doane led 65-17 at the break.The third quarter was the lowest scoring one of the day for Doane as they were held to 17 points. The Tigers scored 14 of the points in the opening four minutes of the quarter before they were held scoreless until a Jansky 3-point basket with 23 seconds to play in the third. Doane led 82-25 heading into the final quarter.The largest lead of the game for Doane was 74 points, 107-33, following a 23-4 run midway through the quarter. Doane hit the century mark for the first time since 2016 against Nebraska Wesleyan, which also marked the first time the Tigers had hit 16 3-point baskets in a game. The Tigers reached the 100-point plateau on a Jansky 3-point basket with 3:07 to play in the game.For the game, Boyes led the way with 22 points and 10 rebounds, both career-highs while pulling in her first double-double. She made 6-of-9 from behind the arc in the game. Macy Holtz (SO/Plainview, Minn.) added 17 points and a team-high five steals. Jansky finished with 15 points, hitting five 3-point baskets. Mak Hatcliff (SO/Beatrice, Neb.) posted 12 points and Boston Boucher (SO/Wood River, Neb.) chipped in with 10 points.Taylor Luben (FR/Wahoo, Neb.) dished out a career-high six assists to go with nine points. Kali Staples (SO/Broken Bow, Neb.) finished with five assists while Ava Kuhl (SO/Columbus, Neb.) and Holtz added four assists apiece. Kuhl also had four steals. As a team, Doane finished with 33 assists and 23 steals in the game. The Tigers shot 54.1-percent from the floor and 41-percent from behind the arc (16-of-39). At the free throw line, they hit 13-of-18 for 72.2-percent.Hannah Beukelman led the Thunder with 15 points and 15 rebounds. They shot 29.6-percent from the floor, 18.2-percent behind the arc (2-of-11), and 25-percent at the free throw line (3-of-12).Doane will wrap up the 2022 conference slate on Thursday, December 15, with a trip to Seward to take on Concordia at 6:00 PM.
