[Women's Basketball] Women's Basketball Rally Falls Short at BCU

The Women's Basketball team suffered another tough setback to Briar Cliff on Saturday, falling 64-60 in Sioux City. The Tigers lost the first meeting between the teams by one point in December. BCU is receiving votes in the NAIA poll.The Tigers were unable to get on track in the first half as they found themselves down 32-15 at the half. Despite the struggles, 17 turnovers and 6-of-21 shooting in the opening half, the Tigers were able to battle back and threaten the Chargers down the stretch. Doane trailed by 21 points with five minutes left in the 3rd quarter only to out-score BCU, 36-19, in the final 15 minutes of action.In the second half, Doane shot 57-percent from the floor (20-of-35) and was paced by Azallee Johnson (JR/Tacoma, Wash.)'s 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Johnson was joined by Ashley Teten (SO/Auburn, Neb.) with a team-high seven rebounds apiece. Madison Davis (SO/Yutan, Neb.) led the team with three assists. Davis and Teten had two steals apiece to lead the team.Briar Cliff received 15 points from Madelyn Deitchler and 13 points from Konnor Sudmann. Sudmann and Mya Hendry had game-high honors in rebounds with eight apiece. Payton Slaughter finished with five assists to pace the Chargers.Doane will travel to Hastings on Wednesday, January 13, to take on the Broncos at 6 PM for their next contest.
