[Women's Basketball] Women's Basketball Tops Peru State by 10

The home slate started for Doane Women's Basketball on Wednesday following their opening season victory on Saturday. The Tigers hosted Peru State and picked up their sixth straight win over the Bobcats with an 88-78 victory. Doane is now 2-0 on the season.Peru State held a pair of two-point leads in the early minutes before Doane took their first lead at 7:13 on a pair of Mak Hatcliff (SO/Beatrice, Neb.) free throws. The Tigers would not trail the rest of the way with the Bobcats managing to tie the game on three occasions.Doane's largest lead of the 1st quarter came off a Boston Boucher (SO/Wood River, Neb.) 3-point basket to give the Tigers' an eight point lead, 24-16. In the 2nd quarter, the Tigers extended the lead to 12 points following a layup by Hatcliff. Peru State went on a 13-1 run to tie the game only to have Doane push the lead back to five points at the break, 40-35.In the 3rd quarter, the Tigers built a lead of 12 points following an Olivia Nall (JR/Tilden, Neb.) jumper but the Bobcats would close the gap back to five points by the end of the 10 minute quarter. Both teams scored 21 points in the 3rd quarter. Peru had the Tigers' lead down to three points midway through the 4th quarter only to see a 9-0 Doane run to go up 80-68. Doane's largest lead of the game was 14 points, 87-73, with 45 seconds left in the game.Nall led all scorers with 26 points while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double. She also collected two steals and two assists in the game. Hatcliff finished with 24 points and six rebounds while Megan Chambers (FR/Omaha, Neb.) collected 12 points and two blocked shots.Kali Staples (SO/Broken Bow, Neb.) and Hatcliff led the team with four steals apiece, as the Tigers picked up 14 steals as a team on 19 Peru State turnovers. Macy Holtz (SO/Plainview, Minn.) led the team with three assists on the night and added nine points, six rebounds, and three steals. A pair of young Tigers picked up their first collegiate points as Libby Trausch (FR/Juniata, Neb.) hit two field goals, including a 3-point basket, and Taylor Luben (FR/Wahoo, Neb.) made a free throw.Peru State was led by Hailey Ingram with 24 points and Sam Stewart with 22 points and 10 rebounds.Doane will jump feet first into conference play in their next outing as they play host to Mount Marty on Saturday, November 12, at 5:00 PM in Crete.
