Chmiel Named PSAC East Athlete of the Week

EAST STROUDSBURG – Emily Chmiel saved her best for last as the junior was honored as the final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Basketball East Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

In a 2-0 week for ESU, which saw the Warriors secure the No. 5 seed in the PSAC East, Chmiel averaged 11.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in 26.0 minutes per game. On Wednesday night at Kutztown, Chmiel recorded eight points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal in 22 minutes off the bench.

In the regular season finale on Saturday vs. Mansfield, the Doylestown native notched her seventh double-double of the season and third in the last four games as the junior finished with 15 points (4-for-9 FG, 7-for-8 FT), 12 rebounds, four blocks and one steal.

Dating back to January 17, Chmiel has started in 12 of 14 games while averaging 12.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 0.6 six steals on 52.9 percent shooting overall and an 80.8 percent clip at the free throw line.

Chmiel collects the first PSAC East Athlete of the Week award in her ESU career and the first for the Warriors since Shyla Sanford was honored back on February 20, 2023.

The fifth-seeded Warriors travel to fourth-seeded Millersville tonight for a date with the Marauders in the first round of the PSAC Tournament. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. inside Pucillo Gymnasium.
